Group for Friends and family to get some support on coping strategies and how to look after yourself
Motiv8 also offers support to friends and family who are impacted by a loved ones substance, gambling or gaming issues.
Motiv8 has a SMART recovery group for Friends and Family Support, the next one is Wednesday 14th May at 6pm. All welcome to come along and meet with other people who are going through shared experiences, you are not alone.
Motiv8 is here to support you today between 12pm to 1pm to chat to family members and friends that may be struggling with substance use in the home or with loved ones.
Did you know that Motiv8 also support family and friends who are impacted by substance use and associated behaviours. You may feel you have tried everything to fix your family member or friend. Motiv8 offer advice, support and evidence-based resources and skills training to help make positive changes.
Addictive behaviours are often in direct conflict with healthy boundaries; unacceptable behaviours and demands often replace respectful boundaries. We may even change our own values and ignore boundaries to keep the peace in the short term. Learning to communicate and request healthy boundaries more effectively can alleviate frustration in the long term.
How do you deal with your loved one not wanting to be around you when they return from rehab
Motiv8 hold auricular acupuncture 3 times a week for all Motiv8 clients, including family and friends. You can call for more information or just come along to a session. It provides great benefits to all and is an excellent way for you to set some time aside to relax and unwind. If we don’t put our own needs first we will struggle to look after those we love.
They will have their own agenda returning from rehab. Try not to take it personally and focus on your own needs and wellbeing. They have been taught skills to stay focused on their recovery so take a step back for now and tell them you will be here if they need you. Focusing on your own wellbeing is essential – perhaps contact Motiv8 and come for an initial chat with a support worker to support that self-care.
Remember, taking care of your own health, fitness and appearance sends a powerful message to yourself and others that says, “I am worthy of care and respect”. Others will make assumptions about your expectations for the way they treat you by how you treat yourself.
