I overdosed some 24 years ago, I didn’t mean too but was taking Heroin and a series of mistakes happened that lead to me taking too much. I began being sick and thought I had lost the drug from my system so took some more.
I became violently ill and lost consciousness but luckily I hadn’t used alone and they called an ambulance, this undoubtedly saved my life. I was given Naloxone to reverse the overdose and was reassured at the hospital that they just wanted to make me well.
There was and still is a perception that the police would be called by the medical team but this is not the case. Paramedics and the medical staff are there to save lives, and on that day they saved mine.
I was ashamed of myself and didn’t want people to know what had happened. Recovery took me time but I can look back now and see that life can change and I was one of the lucky ones. Motiv8 and its team do so much, quietly to save others just like you and I.
If I could give some advice to anyone out there that is using heroin and other Opioids including prescribed medication I would urge them to get a free naloxone kit from Motiv8, don’t use alone and make sure your kit is kept somewhere that it can be easily accessed and used. Also there is help out there if you want to change, Motiv8 helped me and I got my life back, they will help you too.

You can contact us any weekday and arrange to come and collect a kit or drop in on any Wednesday between 12-2pm. Our address is 90-92a Woodbourne Road, Douglas, IM2 3AS. Kits are free and no confidential information is retained, the kits are to keep you safe whilst you are using Opioids for whatever reason.
